Centauri : The Second Sloan Queen

As the universe slowly began to cool and cosmic collisions began to bind together ever stronger cosmic structures, an ancient being of the peculiar and mighty Centaurus A galaxy found herself alone and unsatisfied. Her soulburst, though brightly shining and radiant with incredible flashes of x-rays and radio waves, remained uncontacted by the other cosmic beings she knew were out there, all around her. Like a blinking beacon of radiation, Centauri’s very presence alerted those from many parsecs away that here is power, here is magnificence, here is ferocity. Her presence alone sent ripples through spacetime, and it wasn’t long before she learned that this distortion, this grand and massive talent for bending the cosmic fabric was hers, and hers alone.

As eons passed, and the Sloan Queen Galatea amassed her great sisterhood of NGCs and Messiers, Centauri wondered why such a welcoming hand had never been extended to her. She was, after all, of the same sort of cosmic structures as those who made up the renowned court of Sloan City. It was a mystery to Centauri, a being of such might and potential, as to why she had been excluded from Galatea’s kingdom, and she did not take such jilting with reservation.

The heart of Centauri was filled with the urge to conquer, the urge to show Galatea just what she had missed. If Galatea had an army, Centauri would make one too. She sought out the unaligned Barnards, and one by one, intimidated and threatened them into fealty to her. Galatea would see that not only could Centauri bend the fabric of space and time to her will, but that she had the power to conquer and rule. Sloan City would have no choice but to submit.

Centuari’s aspirations of dominance and superiority were soon daunted upon her arrival at the City. Not only were NGCs and Messiers ready to stand against her, but so were the new, volatile Variable-Type Carinae warriors. When she looked at her hesitant Barnard army, Centauri calculated the possibility of defeat, and decided the odds were not in her favor. But even then, Centauri would not merely submit to Galatea. The Sloan Queen would see that not only was Centauri powerful, but clever as well. She proposed an alliance.

After a series of negotiations, Centauri found herself Queen of the Order of Sloan, in a position to rule, dominate, and subjugate. But it would not be as she hoped. She would work with the court of NGCs to ensure the well-being of all the factions, and watched as her Barnard army soon peacefully integrated itself within the Order. Galatea’s groups may have been wary of their new Queen at first, but with Galatea’s assurances and the NGC court still in place, Messiers, Barnards, and VTCs were all settled peacefully under the dome of Sloan City.

When she would reflect on it, Centauri realized that in a way, she had made both herself and her rivals-turned-allies stronger. Often when she had a quiet moment to herself, she would muse on how her journey to conquer ended to everyone’s benefit, not merely her own. Though she never admitted it, it was the first time such a thing had happened in her life, and in a way, she was proud.
